The control joint window
The joint is cut once the concrete carries the machine but has not yet cracked from shrinkage. That window opens and closes within hours and depends on temperature, humidity and mix. In a Tijuana summer it gets noticeably shorter.
Laying out service trenches
Before cutting you must confirm what runs below: existing services, mesh, post-tensioning or fill. A through-cut that catches a buried pipe turns a one-day trench into a one-week repair.
Wet or dry
Wet cutting is faster, wears the blade less and raises no dust, but produces slurry that has to be contained. Dry cutting with extraction is reserved for finished interiors where water is not an option.
What to check on handover
That the line is straight and continuous, the depth uniform, the edges free of spalling, and that the slurry was removed rather than pushed into a drain.
