Beam and Column Cutting with Diamond Wire

When thickness exceeds any blade, diamond wire cuts the whole section in a single controlled operation.

Diamond wire is the tool that solves what no saw can: massive reinforced concrete sections where blade diameter falls short. A cable with diamond beads wraps the element, runs at high speed and closes the loop until the piece separates. GPC Construcciones has operated wire saw equipment in Tijuana for over a decade.

Its great advantage is control. The cut is quiet next to a breaker, transmits no vibration, and the freed piece can be rigged out in blocks sized by the lift plan. On bridge demolitions, pier caps, columns, deep beams and massive foundations it is the only technique that lets you work beside a structure still in service.

What this service includes

Unlimited section

The loop adapts to the element: deep beams, piers, pier caps and foundation blocks of any size.

Underwater cutting

The wire works submerged, which allows work in pits, docks and hydraulic structures.

Sized pieces

The break-up is planned so each block stays within crane capacity and leaves the site whole.

Beside live structure

No percussion, no impact: we cut a metre away from a column in service without risking its capacity.

Typical applications

  • Partial demolition of bridge beams and pier caps
  • Cutting reinforced concrete columns and piers
  • Sectioning massive foundations and pile caps
  • Removal of thick retaining walls
  • Silo, tank and cylindrical structure cutting
  • Openings through deep slabs
  • Submerged cutting in pits and hydraulic works
  • Freeing pieces for crane removal

Questions about diamond wire sawing

None in practical terms. As long as the loop can wrap the piece, the wire will cut it. Blocks several metres a side have been sectioned.

Per linear metre yes, but it is used where a blade cannot reach. There the alternative is breaker demolition, which is slower, louder and riskier for what stays standing.

Very little compared to percussion. The dominant sound is the water pump and hydraulic power pack, which allows work in urban areas and within restricted hours.

Not in concrete. Water cools the beads and flushes the cut; without it the wire burns out in minutes.
