Epoxy Anchors in Tijuana: Why They Fail and How to Avoid It
Ninety per cent of failed epoxy anchors do not fail because of the resin: they fail because of the hole.
This guide is for anyone about to hire and wanting to understand what they are buying. If you are after the technical detail of the service, it is on the page for epoxy anchoring.
Cause one: a dirty hole
Drilling dust acts as a release agent between resin and concrete. The correct procedure — blow, brush, blow again, as many times as the data sheet says — is not paperwork: it is half the anchor's capacity.
Cause two: insufficient embedment
Embedded length comes from the anchor calculation, not from the rebar left over. Cutting two centimetres of depth to save time can remove a large fraction of the allowable load.
Cause three: loading before cure
Cure depends on substrate temperature. In winter, on exposed work, it can take several times what it takes in summer. Loading early leaves an anchor with a capacity nobody ever verified.
When to require pull-out testing
On anchors for critical elements, when substrate quality is doubtful, when a third party installed them without records, and whenever the supervisor asks. It is cheap next to the consequence.
